DIY Floral Crown

I wanted a floral crown for my wedding. I didn't want a real one that I would have to worry about breaking or it withering away throughout the day, but all of the faux ones I found were very unatural and tacky. So I decided to make my own. And here is how:

YOU WILL NEED

flowers:

(I selected these from our local Hobby Lobby)

supplies:

Brown grapevine wire, brown floral stem wrapping tape, floral stem cutters and gauge green enamel annealed floral wire.

STEP 1

Start by using the stem cutters to detach the different buds and greens you would like to use on your crown, leaving about a 1 inch + stem  to work with.

STEP 2

Use the brown grapevine wire to measure where you would like the crown to sit on your head. Cut it with about 5 inches to spare and twist the extra wire up each side of the crown to hold it closed. For a more sturdy crown you can double up on the grapevine wire by twisting two pieces together. I then wrapped the twisted area in brown floral stem wrapping tape to smooth it out.

(Make your crown just slightly larger than you are wanting it to fit in the end. Adding the flowers, tape and wire tends to tighten it up a bit.)

STEP 3

Start bundling greens and buds until you create a little arrangement you are happy with. Twist the green floral wire around the stems to tightly bind them together. I covered mine with the brown tape to smooth and help hold the stems and wire down.

STEP 4

Start attaching your bundles to the crown, play with them until you find a look that you like, then secure them with the green floral wire. Again, any stems or wires that stuck out I secured tightly with the brown floral tape.

Keep going...

Until you have created your custom floral crown.

STEP 5

Wear & Enjoy!

(Sorry for the photo quality, they were taken on my phone.)
